Friday night’s game included a comeback fall short, a head injury that required a hospital trip-and the ref’s missed calls for the Lady Canes softball team

The crowds were cheering as the Lady Canes tried to score runs with the Opposing team chanting rants for their own team,

Junior Alex McAfee  gave up seven unearned runs and one earned run throughout seven innings of action friday night.

During the second inning, junior right fielder Zailee Robison was injured when a line drive bounced off her glove, hitting her in the head. Eventually she was taken to the hospital to get CT scans and was later released.

“If someone gets injured, we want to win for them,” senior Olivia Garrad-Marden said. “Most of the time, it’s the energy that they brought to us we want to bring it in as well.”

When Robison was injured, the game turned around for the Lady Canes.

“The game was used as a rallying point and from that point forward, we really played solid ball,” head coach Larry Bishop said.

Junior Adrienne Ramsay had a homerun during the game and Junior Chesley Lewis had a few hits for the Lady Canes.

Senior Amy Brothers and Sauntee Braddock also had hits for the Lady Canes.

“I don’t think the scores show how the game went, I think we played really well and we have improved and as long as we elimiate our errors we will get better” Braddock said.

The Hurricanes tried to pull the game close scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning by Devin Perrine and Corinne Clark.

“We did not really hang up [on the game], and it shows we have the ablity we just kind of showed it tonight,” Bishop said.

The Lady Canes (0-3) have another chance to get their first win of the season when they take on Nature Coast tommorrow night with JV starting at 5 p.m. and Varsity at 7 p.m.
