There has been multiple signs and buildings vandalized around campus. Blue and orange paint splatter has been found and cleaned off on the sign holding the word of the day, a blue slash has been painted over the word “Citrus” on the concrete sign that is seen exiting the school’s parking lot and the band concession stand on the visitors’ side of the football field has been repainted due to graffiti as well.
“The bottom line is that we want our school and all the schools in Citrus County to look their best,” Assistant Principal Robert Darby said. “Whenever we see graffiti we will have it fixed. Vandalism is a serious issue and needs to be dealt with appropriately.”
Vandalism is a criminal offense and can be punishable by law.
“The issue has been reported to the sheriff’s office and is currently under investigation,” Darby said. ”We’re hoping to find out who did it. We could use out of school suspension or in school suspension to punish the person who did it, depending on how much damage needs to be dealt with.”
Darby wants restitution for the damages, weither it be fainacially or with labor.
“It’ not fair for your families to pay taxes for someone vandalizing our school,” he said. “I hope that after people read [this] article someone will come forward and say who did it.”
Students like junior Carolyn Cooper think that the vandalism around school is immature.
“If people don’t like the sign, then don’t look at it,” she said. “There is no need to waste your time and energy on vandalizing other people’s signs.”
The Sheriff’s Department has had other incidents of graffiti around the county; not only has the high school been vandalized but other schools in the area such as Citrus Springs Middle School and the residences around the school have also been defaced.
“Anyone with information about this crime is asked either to call 911 or make contact with their school resource officer,” according to Gail Tierney Citrus County Sheriff’s Department’s public resource officer.
