The fight that started from the beginning came to a halt as Nature Coast defeated Citrus 54-50 in the final minutes of the game.

Junior July-Castro-Morales had 15 points as the Canes had a 30-21 lead Until the 3rd and 4th quarter. During the final 18 seconds, the scoreboard’s clock was not working which caused a delay in the game for a few seconds as the managers worked on fixing the clock on the scoreboard.

“Its always disappointing to lose just because I think our team wanted to be very competitive,” head coach Brian Lattin said. ”You never want to lose, but at the same time that is one of the better team we played on our schedules. It also says something about how far we’ve come to only lose by four points.”

From some player’s perspective, the loss made the team better.

“The loss will make us better we play Land-o-Lakes in district so this teams’ much harder difficult team to beat than Land-o-Lakes” junior McKenzie Brisson said.

As for the seniors, Shannon Candalieri, Heather Cogar, and Kelinda Glesil they have played their last game at home.

“It always hurts to lose a senior from a leadership standpoint, but we only had three seniors, so we return a lot of key players for next year,” Lattin said.

In his first year as head coach of  the girls basketball team, Lattin has made an impact on some of his players, and they hope that he continue to make an impact on their playing skills. Last year he coached the JV boys basketball team and he was also an assistant on the boys varsity team.

“Coach Lattin is doing amazing, he is doing a great job it’s always a big step from coaching guys to coaching girls and I think he’s doing pretty good,” Morales said.

The Lady Canes begin districts Feb. 1.
