Being a teacher for 12 years has finally paid off for John Edel. He was just recently voted for Teacher of the Year in 2009.
“There are a lot of great teachers here at CHS,” Edel said. “I just feel very fortunate to be counted as one of them.”
This is the first time Edel has been chosen for Teacher of the Year but has been nominated for it in 2007-2008.
“It was a total surprise,” Edel said. “They announced that I won over the intercom and suddenly all these people came rushing into my room with balloons and flowers.”
It was all a blur.
“The only details I remember is seeing my wife, and thinking to myself, I have a really stupid grin on my face right now,” Edel said.
Edels inspiration to become a teacher was from his former teachers.
“I wanted to become a teacher because I really wanted to honor my teachers I had growing up,”Edel said.” especially my chemistry, orchestra and chorus teachers.”
His teachers have rubbed off on him.
“Mr Edel is so amazing,” Freshman Samantha Turner said.” The best part of his class is being able to sing and hang out.”
Freshman Kattileen Zeigler agreed.
“Mr Edel has got to be the coolest teacher,” Zeigler said.”He’s so much fun.”
Edel’s benefits for becoming Teacher of the Year include having a lot more paperwork.
“The biggest benefit is knowing that the faculty notices and appreciates the chorus program,” Edel said.
