Crystal River blanks Citrus 2-0

With all the excitement surrounding senior night and playing Crystal River, the Canes did everything they could trying to get the win for the seniors on their last game of the year at home. But all efforts of attempting to get the win were dashed as the Canes came up short against Crystal River 2-0.

With upcoming districts beginning on Tuesday, the loss against Crystal River left a stale taste in the boy’s mouths.

“They just gotta know that it’s never over and that were gonna continue to fight,” head coach James Martone said

The game was tied 0-0 at halftime, until the second half when Ray Fernandez gave up two goals to put Crystal River up 2-0 before the end of the game.

But the loss to the Pirates did nothing to damper Senior night for the Hurricanes as James McKinney, Nimmer Mingdad, Adam Santa Fe, Kevin Smith, Michael Warnock and AJ Woythaler who are all graduating this year.

“After all these years of playing soccer, I’m kinda glad that this is my last year and I’m kind of happy” senior Adam Santa Fe said.

Other members on the team meanwhile were disapointed for the seniors since this was the last game for the seniors.

“We wanted to win and we didn’t make it but we fight with fire,” junior Luigi Schianodicola said.

The Canes are 8-8-2 this season including  the loss to Crystal River for Friday night. They only had two ties this season including the tie to Lecanto on Wednesday.

The Hurricanes are now the No. 4 seed in the district tournament coming up with Crystal River being the No. 1 seed, and the other county rival Lecanto the No. 9 seed.

Meanwhile, Coach Martone’s screaming on the field helped sparked a little more motavation against Crystal river.

“They all have different things they do that help motavate us on the field,” junior Zack Fagan said. ” Mr. Menisiteri always motavates me the most.”

The Hurricanes play tommorrow night at No. 5 seed River Ridge beginning at 6 p.m.
