MORP-ing the night away

Written by: Maria Sanchez MORP-ing the night away thumbnail

Prom is the highlight of the year for most juniors and seniors. It’s one of the best nights of their high school careers. The girls run out and get the most beautiful dress they can find and get their hair done all fancy. While guys rent a tux and try to look as sharp as possible. This all sounds great but what has a few students upset is the price tag.

Students have been talking to administration and teachers desperate for a fun dance somewhere in the middle of the year that isn’t going to break the bank. Finally, they have responded.

The dance is on February 12 in the cafeteria from 8:30p.m to 12.a.m. The name of the dance is “MORP” which is prom spelled backwards. The dress is semi-formal. ”MORP” is inspired by a dance that Crystal River High used to have.

The point of “MORP” is just simply to have a good time. Underclassmen are only able to attend homecoming and since prom is reserved for juniors and seniors, “MORP” gives freshman and sophomores a chance to strut their stuff.

The ticket sales are going to be a competition between the classes to see who will buy the most tickets. The winning class receives a special dedication time at the dance where only they’re allowed on the floor. NHS sponsor Mrs. Stanley said, “Let’s see which class wins the contest for the dance! It will be exciting to see which class shows the most enthusiasm!”

Tickets cost $5 and sales begin Feb. 1 and will last for a week and a half.

Proceeds from the dance will be used to give away scholarships to students.

NHS will be broadcasting commercials advertising the dance on the morning show starting Feb. 6.
