Citrus County needs a boost

Written by: Angelica Seaman Citrus County needs a boost thumbnail

Citrus County was founded in 1887. The county is built on one big grove, Bellemy Grove. Although the county didn’t really start to develop until the ’60s, a lot has changed.

Amidst all the changes most teens would agree that our county is missing something very important: fun.

Citrus County is known for recycling, retirement, and manatees. None of these things is highly exciting, and most teens would agree Citrus County needs some more excitement.

“What our county needs is more stuff for teens to do,” Kevin Webb said. “It’s a small town and there’s always lots of drama because everybody knows everybody.”

Sophomore Amanda Poliseno also feels the county is too boring.

“The only fun things we really have to do here are sporting events at school,” she said.

Poliseno’s favorite athletic event to attend is football games, a past time that many other teens in Citrus County enjoy.

However, not all teens have a negative outlook on living here. Despite the dismal lack of places to hang out, places to shop, and attractions to enjoy, many teens are appreciative of the small town feel.

“It’s a nice little county to live, not a lot of crime,” sohpomore Paige Weaver said. “It’s a good place to grow up in.”

Rachel Albrecht also shares Weaver’s views and feelings of Citrus County.

“It’s quiet and there’s lots of good people here,” she said.

Even those who love it here wouldn’t mind changing a few things.

“We need a bigger mall, and cooler places to hang out,” Albrecht said.

Citrus County changes more and more each day. Restraunts are being built, banks are being added, and stores are being inserted. Hopefully Citrus County will soon gain some of the things teens would like to see and teen’s label of our county will change from not to hot.
