Summer is in the air and with that comes the exciting new fashions of summer.
“I don’t really change my wardrobe for summer,” junior Hannah Mattingly said.
After that final bell rings in June, there won’t be the possibility of getting into trouble that day for dress code violations. We will all be free to wear whatever our hearts desire.
Summer 2009 is inspired by unique points of view with little pops of color added in to show off personality. It is related to the Spring 2009 trends but with more flesh showing because of the heat.
Let’s start with foundation. Skin that has the appearance of not being touched is in. Natural shades of makeup and eyeshadow are now popular, since the trend this season is to enhance natural beauty.
Long, dark eyelashes or wonderful artificial lashes are now back in fashion this summer. They add a fairy tale look to an outfit and also enhance natural beauty.
Also the regular eyebrow is back. Trimmed and perfect Barbie brows are out.
No more heavy, black eyeliner either. Purple is the popular color this season, so violet eyeliner is a rising trend.
Summer hair trends this summer is long and curly. For hair that is shorter, a fantasy, ethereal look is in.
Neon nail polish is popping out through summer fashion runways. The most used color is neon green.
Objects to enhance the hair’s natural beauty are hot. Buy a hat, scarf or clip that would make an everyday look more interesting.
One large bag that can be flung over the shoulder is the in purse for the summer. For evening outfits or special occasions, then go for the small, scrunched hand held clutch.
Flip flops and sandals are always in for the summer time. This summer though, there is a Greek styled sandal that is becoming more popular as June approaches.
There are specific color palates that can be used for everyday clothing, special occasions and chic looks. Visit http://www.fashiontrendsetter.com/content/color_trends/2008/TFL-Color-Trends-Spring-Summer-2009.html to see examples.
Black is the side kick color this summer. Whether it is paired with animal print or neon colors, it works with anything.
The layering of different toned colors are trendy for tank tops. Try to take one color and use different shades of that color through out the outfit.
When looking for a tank top to wear this summer, it should have something unique about it. Whether it has ruffled sleeves or a pretty design going across it, it needs to stand out from the average tank top.
Mini jean skirts are also back in fashion for this summer. This year rips and torn edges of the skirt seem to be popular.
Short summer dresses are popular in the shades of sunflower yellow. The yellow has a strong personality and stands out of the crowd.
“I live in Florida, so I wear most of my summer outfits all year long,” said Mattingly. “It’s not worth my time to change my closet for three months out of the year.”
So when that final exam is taken and teachers say good bye, slip on a pair of shorts and enjoy the summer.
