The shorter the better

Written by: Amanda The shorter the better thumbnail
If any parent or person was asked what one event that they remember most about their high school days, prom would probably be on their list. Prom is most widely known as a night to remember.

The month before the prom, many girls go to their local drug store to buy the latest magazine that says what the prom trends are for the year. A few girls also look online to find the latest prom trend videos- How to Express Yourself With Prom Dresses

Prom 2009 has different characteristics from proms from the past. The accessories, dresses and inspirations are from their own era.

The first thing that is on every girls mind when the word “prom” comes up is the dresses. The dresses for this year are taking on the motto of “the shorter, the better.”

Dresses that show a teens own personality are the popular item for this year. Dresses that have special details such as beading, ruffles, color, and the person’s personal style.

Brilliant gem colors will stand out of a crowd, while solid classic colors (red, black, white and gold) look like a Hollywood star.

Prints, floral and graphic design dresses will make the girl wearing it look daring, bold and creative. Also there is a chance that no one else at the prom will be wearing the same dress.

Bright colors are in fashion for prom. Vivid colors such as hot pink, lemon yellows and sunset oranges are just some of the colors.

“My dress this year will definitely show my personality,” junior Lisa Hines said.

Asymmetrical dresses also show a specific side of the person wearing the dress. A one strapped dress is for fun girls while the no strapped dresses are mostly worn by girls who like to feel good about themselves.

Full length, ball room type dresses will always be in fashion for the prom, because it’s a classic look. The new up and coming look starting this year is a shorter Hollywood inspired dress that looks chic.

“My dress is really cool,” junior Angela Brown said. “It has this sheer over the bottom which adds dimension to the dress.”

Little embellishments on a dress make it stand out from other dresses. It adds variety to a simple dress that can’t be done through a jewelry piece or a hair do.

When going to purchase a corsage or a boutonniere, on most order forms there is a specific place that can be checked to make or design their own. This makes the piece more special and it can also match the dress that is being worn.

Hair styles for this year are mostly inspired by Hollywood celebrities. The up dos are chic while the longer hair that is down is pretty and simple.

Clips or flowers in the hair that match the dress are in style. Little details through hair that correspond with the corsage work also.

The last minute accessories that everyone should remember is a camera, extra money, and a touch up kit.

Don’t forget that prom only happens once! Make it something to remember forever.
